Tabatha Frost is a contemporary metalsmith whose latest work focuses on tableware. Influenced by industrial aesthetics she combines a range of materials including: cast iron, cement, gilding metal and silver. Her work explores notions of function through using the forms of the work to play with suggestions of usability. The work attempts to cross over from industrial aesthetic to domestic environments; promoting associations of function while at the same time questioning the appropriateness of materials and our acceptance of objects within the table setting. Tabitha’s latest work looks into the associations we make when viewing objects, and how potential function is perceived.
